 Base: The single-shoulder structure makes the carriage/base assembly extremely compact. The guides are fixed to the base along their entire length to ensure maximum linearity of the stroke.  Carriage and blade travel on prismatic guides: maximum rigidity and perpendicularity of the blade to the panel stack.
