The universal spindle lathe SU 1500 Variant is a numerically controlled machine designed for roughing and finishing of shaft and flange parts, as well as for threading, drilling, taper turning, and machining of various rotationally symmetrical surfaces. The machine is built with a rigid horizontal bed, the guideways are hardened and ground, and the counter surfaces on the longitudinal slides are coated with Turcite B sliding material. The SU 1500 Variant lathe is a machine with automatic cycle control, equipped with a Heidenhain control system.

The feed drive for the longitudinal axis (Z-axis) is provided by a servo drive directly to the ball screw. The cross-feed drive (X-axis) is also provided by a servo drive directly to the ball screw. Both feeds are measured by rotary encoders mounted on the servo motors. The machine can be operated either manually or in controlled (automatic) mode.
